Global Summit on CRVS Concept Note (Last update April 17, 2013)

The lack of progress in civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) was described by Lancet editor Richard Horton in 2007, as "the single most critical development failure over the past 30 years." CRVS is a development agenda, and needs to be recognised and taken forward within broder development agendas. The goal of the Summit is to mobilize partners, regional organizations and donors to prioritize CRVS as a development issue on the global post-MDG agenda. As noted by the then WHO Director-General Lee Jong-wook in July 2003, "To make people count, we first need to be able to count people".
